The Finnish Language and Culture Program is available to students with previous studies in the Finnish language.
Courses taught in English
Programs taught in English include Baltic Sea Region Studies, Finnish-Nordic Society and Culture, European Studies, and Turku Law School and Business and Management. Some courses in Mathematics and Natural Sciences, e.g. computer science, environmental science, development studies, molecular biology, and biotechnology are also available in English. University of Turku offers also a Summer School about Finnish Culture. Summer School is organised in August.
Academic Notes
The university's special research units include the Archipelago Research Institute and the Sub-arctic Research Institute, both situated in appropriate and scenic locations.

Language Notes
Knowledge of Finnish or Swedish is not required. The Åbo/Turku universities offer a wide variety of programs and courses taught in English.
I-to-I applicants who are not native English speakers must submit a minimum official TOEFL of 575 (232 CBT)
Note: The host institution ultimately determines your proficiency level and course eligibility.
Beginner- to advanced-level courses in Finnish are included in ISEP benefits during semesters.
Program Dates
Academic year: September to May; Semester 1: September to late December; Semester 2: January to May. The Faculty of Medicine's fall term starts in early August.
Housing and Meals
Housing for ISEP students is offered in single or shared apartments. The Student Village Foundation has several options for housing. Please see http://ww.tys.fi/ for more information. All rooms have bathrooms and access to kitchen facilities. Students are provided with a stipend for meals. Married student and family housing is available.
Profile
The two universities are situated on adjacent campuses and within walking distance to the city center. ISEP students register at one of the two universities and choose from courses taught in English in over 40 different subject areas that are offered by the universities every academic year.
The international offices at the two universities all offer services to incoming exchange students. An orientation program, excursions, student tutors, and advisory services all form part of the warm welcome that students receive. Location
Turku/Åbo, the oldest city in Finland, is located on the southwest coast of Finland next to the stunningly beautiful archipelago. Originally a market town, it was the capital of Finland until the early 19th century. The city is located 160 kilometers west of Helsinki, the capital.
