Courses taught in English
The following are taught in English: architecture, environmental engineering and biotechnology, information technology, materials science, industrial engineering and management, and biomedical engineering. In addition, departments may offer a few courses lectured in English.

The Information Technologyprogram covers areas such as signal processing, image and video, speech signal processing, multimedia, telecommunications, software engineering, computer systems engineering, and applied mathematics. The Materials Science program studies characteristics and applications of metals, ceramics, and polymers and composites. The Biomedical Engineering program specializes in bioelectric and biomagnetic phenomena, their computer analysis, modeling and processing, combined with advanced image processing methods.

The program in Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology offers courses in water supply, waste water treatment, environmental biotechnology, waste management, safety engineering, energy technology and management, and applied process technology. The students can specialize widely by selecting studies from other available training programs.

The Department of Architecture is divided into three institutes: The Institute of Architectural Design, The Institute of Theory and History of Architecture and the Institute of Urban Design and Planning. Each institute provides an international course in English. Each of the three courses is comprised of lectures and studio project work in teams within a period of six weeks. Architecture placements are limited and require a portfolio.

The Fiber, Textile and Clothing Science program offers courses in mechanical production of textiles, chemical treatment of textile materials, textile recycling and reuse, biotechnology in textile process, standards of tests on fibers, yarns and fabrics, CAD, technical and economic aspects of the textile and clothing industry, manufacture of trial lots.

Special Academic Conditions
Multilateral applicants please note that preference is given to students from institutions with which this institution does not have Socrates/ Erasmus agreements.

Language Notes
Finnish proficiency is required in all regular subjects except those noted above, which are offered in English. Independent study and research projects can be arranged in English. Multilateral applicants who are not native English speakers must submit a minimum official or institutional TOEFL score of 550 (213 CBT) or an equivalent IELTS score. Intensive Finnish courses are offered during the academic year (included in ISEP benefits).

Program Dates
Academic year: late August to May; Semester 1: late August to December; Semester 2: early January to May.

Housing and Meals
ISEP students are housed in modern student flats, a ten-minute walk from the campus. A meal stipend is provided. Apartments have two study-bedrooms, a small bathroom and kitchen with modern conveniences, and a permanent Internet connection.

Profile
Tampere University of Technology (TUT) has grown rapidly since it was founded in 1965. TUT is able to link expertise in different areas of engineering in a flexible manner. Tampere Technology Center-Hermia, NOKIA company, and the Tampere laboratories of the Technical Research Center of Finland (VTT) are both neighbors and partners of the university. The university library offers a digital learning environment with a number of information materials and PC facilities on campus and wireless Internet access in the library. Total enrollment: 12,000 (700 international students).

Location
TUT is located about seven kilometers from the center of Tampere in the suburb of Hervanta. The city offers first-class services and high architectural standards in the midst of forests and lakes.
