Academic Notes
Lappeenranta University of Technology is the only university in Finland where students can easily combine technology and business studies under the same roof. Depending on your previous studies at your home university, you can choose courses taught in English from the three LUT faculties. The majority of the courses are taught at Master’s level, so students are expected to have basic degree-level knowledge of the relevant subjects. Students should note that it is not possible to do final projects at LUT. Multilateral students: Please note that European Union students are encouraged to apply to Lappeenranta through ERASMUS. Due to agreements, Lappeenranta do not EU students through ISEP.
Language Notes
I-to-I applicants who are not native English speakers must submit a minimum official TOEFL of 550 (213 CBT).

Housing and Meals
ISEP students are housed in modern apartments, each housing two to three students in individual bedrooms, a shared kitchen and bathroom. Basic furniture, bed linen and internet connection are included. Apartments are located in the suburbs nearby about 1-4 kilometers from LUT. Students receive a monthly scholarship to cover the cost of meals. Couples are offered a two-room apartment (similar like mentioned above); furnished studios or family apartments are not available.

Student Activities
Every department has it's own student association, called a guild. The guilds organizes parties and excursions and unite the students of each department.
The Student Union, together with various student clubs, organize plenty of fun social and sports activities. There are about 30 active student societies on campus, including movie, music, golf, horseback riding, hiking, climbing, street culture, and motorcycle clubs, just to mention a few. The Student Union and the various student clubs also organize parties, movie nights, excursions, skiing trips and other activities for the Finnish and international students.
The University and the surrounding area also offer excellent possibilities for athletics. Students can use the the university’s sports hall from morning until late at night, and there is also a gym that students can use free or charge.
STUDENT TUTORING: All international students at LUT are appointed a tutor who is a student at LUT. Your tutor will be waiting for you when you first arrive in Lappeenranta and he/she will take you to your flat. Your tutor will help you with practical matters such as getting to know the Finnish student housing and customs, settling at the university, opening a bank account etc.
HOST FAMILY PROGRAM: All international students (attending autumn semester or academic year) at LUT are offered the chance of participating in the Host Family Program. The program brings together international students and South Karelian families. The aim is to help foreign students learn more about Finnish culture and family life. In return, the students provide the host family with a greater understanding and appreciation of other cultures.
The Host Family Program is voluntary, which means that the students and families decide themselves how often they meet and what they do together. You may meet once a month or even every week and cook together, go swimming, skiing or to see a basketball game – it is entirely up to you and the family.
The program is coordinated by the international offices of Lappeenranta University of Technology and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences and the Student Society of Lappeenranta Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Profile
Lappeenranta University of Technology, which is surrounded by beautiful nature and an atmosphere of high technology, was established in 1969 as a national university of technology. It is located in the city of Lappeenranta on the shore of lake Saimaa, some seven kilometers from the city centre.
LUT is a dynamic, rapidly developing university, and it has a friendly and welcoming research and studying environment thanks to its small size and modern facilities. The most outstanding characteristic of LUT is the integration of expertise in technology and economics. Its’ location on the border between European Union and Russia also has a great impact on its’ innovative activities and orientation. The university’s areas of strength lie in the forest and metal industry cluster, energy, economics, information and communication technology and in expertise in Russian business and industry.

Location
Lappeenranta, which is situated on the southernmost shore of the largest lake in Finland, is a city with 70,000 inhabitants where all the diverse services and leisure time activities are within easy reach. It is also cheaper to live in than the bigger cities. In addition, it only takes 2-3 hours to Helsinki by car, bus or train.
The city of Lappeenranta is the administrative and cultural centre of the surrounding province, South Karelia, located some 220 kilometers northeast of Finland’s capital, and about 230 kilometers northwest of St. Petersburg in Russia. Although Lappeenranta is the centre of a major industrial region, the city itself and the surrounding countryside are a clean and beautiful mosaic of green forests and blue lakes.
