Hints for Researching Courses
From the Handbook Search page, click on the left hand menu to search for units available (there is a listing for undergraduate and postgraduate students). Units (= course) can be searched by code, designation, faculty and department. You can also search units by typing key words in the search function.
Please note that Australia operates on the Southern Hemisphere academic calendar (Semester 1 = Feb-June; Semester 2 = July-Nov). Be sure your course requests are offered during the right semester (for example, units listed as D1 refer to units offered during 1st semester).
Academic Notes
Students must enroll in full-time studies, 9 - 14 Macquarie credit points, accounting for 3 - 4 courses per semester. Most courses include one lecture component and one tutorial component. The tutorial component is a small class mainly utilized for problem solving. Study abroad students are eligible to study in all departments, as long as the relevant pre-requisites are met.

Language Notes
Students from non-native English-speaking countries must submit a minimum paper-based TOEFL score of 580 (with minimum of 5.0 TWE, 53 Listening, Writing 59, and Reading 52) or CBT 237 (5.0 Essay writing with 19 in all sections) or IBT 92 (Speaking 23, Listening 18, Writing 22, Reading 17). An IELTS score of 6.5 (with 6.0 minimum in each band) is also acceptable. Some additional alternative language assessments are accepted for students from Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.
Program Dates
Observes Southern Hemisphere calendar. Academic year: beginning of March to beginning of December; Semester 1: beginning of March to beginning of July; Semester 2: end of July to beginning of December.
Housing and Meals
Students are housed in fully furnished, self-catered apartments near campus. Rooms are available on a single or shared basis. Macquarie International may assist students with spouses and families with housing; however, please contact the Study Abroad Office for further information. The ISEP-Direct program in Australia does not include meals.
Student Activities
Study abroad and exchange students are offered a well rounded program which includes activities before and after the start of semester. Students are given a comprehensive orientation and can choose to participate in pre-orientation trips like Surf camps. There are also many clubs on campus catering to all interests including Club Ex which was created by students who have participated in exchange, to help all study abroad students meet their fellow students through various social excursions.
Internships, Service Learning, Volunteering
ISEP participants have the option of participating in internships during their studies at Macquarie. Students are found unpaid positions relevant to their major and/or interests and receive Macquarie credit. Internship applicants are required to have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and should sumbit a resumé and cover letter. For further information, please visit their website.

ISEP-Direct
ISEP has developed the Australia-Direct program to provide students with competitively priced fee-paid study abroad options in Australia. The program is distinct from other ISEP-Direct programs; the program has its own application form and placement procedures. Some Australia-Direct institutions offer more than one fee based on different housing arrangements (tuition-only, tuition and single-room, tuition and shared-room). Meals are not included in the program. Students are also responsible for the application fee, travel costs and personal expenses.
