Colleges of Earth and Marine Science (agriculture, environmental science, geography & topography, marine biology, environmental management, forestry engineering); Education; Health and Sport Sciences (physical education, physical health promotion); Philosophy and Letters (French, Latin American studies, literature, linguistics, philosophy, religion, Spanish); Sciences (chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, biology, topography); Social Sciences (economics, history, international relations, planning & social development, sociology, business administration, psychology); Fine Arts (dance, music, plastic arts, theater).
Academic Notes
Fine arts, history, international relations, Latin American studies and literature, and all General Education courses are appropriate for ISEP participants. Please note that courses in Spanish studies are intended for native speakers of the language who plan to become Spanish teachers. Upper-level courses in Spanish studies and literature may require some background knowledge and high-intermediate or advanced level of Spanish.

Language Notes
- A minimum of 4 semesters of university-level Spanish or the equivalent must be completed prior to program.
- Spanish language courses are offered in addition to regular classes during the semester for Intermediate and Advanced levels.
- A 5-week pre-session, intensive ISEP-Direct Spanish language course is offered in the Summer for an additional fee for High Intermediate and Advanced levels.
- Individual tutoring is offered for Intermediate and Advanced levels for an additional fee.
- Note: The host institution ultimately determines your proficiency level and course eligibility.

Program Dates
Observes the Southern Hemisphere calendar. Academic year: January to mid-November; Semester 1: January to early June; Semester 2: early July to November.
Housing and Meals
Students are housed with families in Heredia. Twenty-one meals a week are provided to students.
Internships, Service Learning, Volunteering
The ISEP Community Service Program at UNA is comprised of four weekend visits to a rural community totaling 60 hours of service (travel time is included). The visits will be scheduled once a month. This is a non-credit program. For those students interested in requesting credits at their home university, ISEP will issue a certificate of participation for those who complete the program. An additional fee will be charged for this program as it is not included in ISEP Benefits. This fee will include room and board for each weekend as well as all travel costs to and from the community.

The Universidad Nacional is aimed at meeting the needs of Costa Rican society. It furthers the integral development of the student through a humanistic curriculum based on the study of domestic reality and world culture. There is a growing international student body, with students from Central, South, and North America. Total enrollment: 10,500 at the Campus Omar Dengo.
