Become an Affiliate
The ISEP Affiliate Program is designed to enable students from accredited colleges and universities to study abroad at over 35 ISEP member institutions in 25 countries through ISEP-Direct. In most cases, ISEP-Direct participants register as regular students at host institutions, take the same courses, have the same assignments, and participate in the same activities as local students.
Q: What exactly is an ISEP affiliate?
A: ISEP affiliates are regionally or nationally accredited colleges and universities whose students are eligible to apply for and participate in ISEP-Direct programs. ISEP affiliates do not receive incoming students through ISEP.
Q: What is ISEP-Direct?
A: ISEP-Direct programs are fee-paid semester, full year, and short-term study abroad opportunities similar to the model of many study abroad program providers. All ISEP-Direct host institutions are members of ISEP and adhere to a set of membership standards. Participants in ISEP-Direct programs pay a program fee which reflects exactly the benefit package (tuition, housing, and/or meals) that they receive. All ISEP-Direct programs are open to students from both members and affiliates and are non-reciprocal.
Q: What is the difference between an ISEP member and an ISEP affiliate?
A: Students from ISEP member institutions are eligible to apply for and participate in both ISEP reciprocal exchanges and ISEP-Direct programs. Students from ISEP affiliates are eligible to participate in ISEP-Direct programs only and not reciprocal exchanges, so ISEP affiliate institutions are not obligated to receive incoming students through ISEP. ISEP-Direct programs are always non-reciprocal, and so neither an ISEP member nor affiliate receives an incoming student when an outgoing ISEP-Direct student is sent. The annual due for ISEP members is significantly higher than that for ISEP affiliates.
Q: What is the annual institutional fee for being an ISEP affiliate?
A: Currently, there is no annual institutional fee for affiliates. Annual institutional fees are reviewed and approved annually by the ISEP Board of Directors.
Q: What are the benefits of being an ISEP affiliate?
A: Students from ISEP affiliates have access to some of the most affordable study abroad programs available in both traditional, high-demand locations and non-traditional destinations. The vast majority of ISEP-Direct programs immerse students into the host culture, which fosters student growth and independence. ISEP leverages resources for the mutual benefit of all ISEP network members, especially with concern to program fees and benefits. Professional development opportunities for faculty and staff from ISEP affiliates are available in the form of conferences, symposia, and workshops. ISEP affiliates also have access to print and web-based information about all program offerings, as well as periodic email updates from ISEP central.
Q: Where can students go on ISEP-Direct?
A: ISEP-Direct programs are available at over 35 ISEP member institutions in 25 countries throughout the world and in the United States (for non-US students). Host ISEP-Direct countries include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy, Japan, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay.
Q: What are the costs to students?
Q: How does my institution become an ISEP affiliate?
A: The process of becoming an ISEP affiliate is relatively simple and once complete, your institution can start sending students on ISEP-Direct immediately. If your institution is interested, fill out and return the
Prospective ISEP Affiliate Information form.
Note for Students: Individual students cannot apply for ISEP affiliate status. Universities can join ISEP as either members or affiliates, and only students from these member and affiliate universities can participate in ISEP programs. Affiliate institutions are listed below, and lists of members institutions are found at the following links: U.S. Members | Members outside the U.S. If your school is not a member or affiliate, see your on-campus international office for study abroad options.
